FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF DALTON |
Christian Education The
First Congregational Church of Dalton welcomes you and your family to
its Church School, Program. Any Child from birth through 8th grade is
welcome to attend our Church School. Worship
Service begins at 10:15 a.m. Children 3 years through grade 8
should accompany their parents in the Sanctuary. Nursery age
children may be brought to the nursery at 10:00 am. At the end of
the Story for Young Christians, children will be dismissed to their
classes with their teachers. Parents of 3 - 4 year old’s and
Kindergartener’s are asked to bring their child to the classroom.
We ask that children in the nursery be picked up promptly after
the service. Three - four year old’s through 8th grade will be
dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Parents of three year old through first
grade are asked to pick up their child from their classroom. Church
School begins on the second Sunday in September with a Kick-Off
Breakfast and ends with a Children's Sunday Celebration on the second
Sunday in June. Registration takes place on Kick-Off Sunday, but
new members may register their child any Sunday during the Church School
year. Our
curriculum provides well-rounded, activity based lessons. We use
Cokesbury's Exploring Faith curriculum and our teachers and students
learn amazing amounts of information each week. This curriculum also
lends itself to holiday recognition and mission projects, as it ties
everyday life into the Bible lessons. Our 7th and 8ih grade students do
not use the same curriculum. Instead they are involved in a Bible
program that is video, trivia and history based and was developed by
Linda Witherell and Rick Norton. The kids learn an amazing amount of
information in a very short period of time. We are very proud to have
Linda still with us running this program!
The
C.E. program supports many mission projects that run throughout the year
such as The Sunshine Wagon, which is a food collection project. School
Kits, which sends supplies to needy countries, and The Knitten Tree,
which collects warm articles of clothing during the winter months for
distribution throughout our county. Each year we also arrange for a
larger Lenten Mission Project to take place within our church school.
This year we are sending Love Loaf boxes home during Lent so families
can collect money to be sent to World Vision. A prayer guide for daily
readings and facts about hunger accompany the boxes so children and
their families can learn why other people are in desperate need for
outside support to abolish hunger.
Children and Communion - We are an "Open Church." All baptized Christians are invited to take Communion, including children. The cups contain grape juice. Children may receive Communion by participating in Family Communion Sundays. These are three Sundays during the Church School year that the children (First - Eighth grades) remain in Sanctuary and receive the Holy Sacrament with their family. After receiving Communion, they are then dismissed to Church School. If parents wish their child to receive communion every month, they are welcome to have their child remain in the service. We ask that you inform the child's teacher for attendance purposes. Children learn about the meaning of Communion and how to receive it in Church School.
